* There being no records in my office to show diother Chesh Ngoh Oh is a british Subject or no, I am instructing the head of the hei-Ch'ông Folion Sub-Office to pursus investigations on the spot into this 'Tar battloment' matter. I have also the honour to submit this report with the request that you should address to the British Consul at Amoy an enquiry as to whether Cheah ligoh Üh is a British Subject, and to favour mo with oarly instructions for my guidance.

I have the honour therafern to communicate the above for your information, and to request you to be so good as to investigate mother Choah Ngoh Oh in oun of your nationls, so that I may be in a position to ismo the necessary in-

structions.
